Billion Wordpress Spam Comments Date

77,430,232,104- That’s the number of spam comments prevented by Akismet to date. Unbelievable but true! Are you wondering how many of these were directed towards your blog? If yes, then it’s time to quit thinking and start acting!

Spam commenting is at an upsurge. At the time of writing, 52,453,722 spam comments had already been detected for the day! It is the easiest way for attackers to compromise with the security of your
Wordpress blog. So, what do you do? Akismet will obviously do its job, but as a blogger how will you decipher between ‘ham’ and ‘spam’? Let us help you. Enlisted below are some ways to give spammers the boot.

Know What’s Worth Taking A Gander:

It is best to halt spammers as soon as they strike! Identifying spam comments is easy. Such comments are often filled with misspellings, promotional links and meaningless phrases. Further, keep a track of comments which have nothing to do with the topic in question. For instance, if you have published a post regarding the oldest existing collection of watches and people are commenting about the presidential elections, then it is a red alert!

Put Some Barricades:

Older posts top the hit list of spammers. Observing this trend, it is best to close the comments on such posts. This is a calculative move. While you don’t ban conversations altogether, you promote appropriate and timely discussions. Moreover, a handful of Wordpress tools allow you to block certain terms which are frequently used by spammers.

Limit Link Usage:

As you restrict the amount of links which can be inserted in a particular comment, you considerably cut down on the amount of spam comments coming in. Here’s how to go about it- sign into your Wordpress account, go to the Settings segment and adjust the settings in a way that only one link is allowed per comment. Doing so, WP notifies you every time a user posts a comment which has higher number of links than the permitted limit.

User Registration Should be Paramount:

Ask users to register on your site or blog before commenting. This is a tried and tested way of preventing spam comments. If you are worried that legitimate users may get annoyed while filling up the long registration form, then adding a short note is the best thing to do. Let the note explain your users that you only permit comments from registered users because you are tired of the spam comments appearing again and again on your blog.

Comments Should Be Subject to Approval:

If you don’t get thousands of comments on your blog, then this is the best way to deal with spammers. Approving every comment before it appears in public might sound painstaking, but if you prefer hands on method, there’s nothing better than this one. Moreover, you have the option of adding a tweak to your blog which makes every comment subject to approval from a moderator. Both these tactics are definitely time consuming, but are worthwhile when it comes to robbing a spammer of his gratification!

Keeping Wordpress spammers at bay isn’t a lost battle, especially if you implement the aforementioned techniques gradually and determine which one works the best for you.

Guide Comments On Blog And WordPress

It's been a week since Google launched the new Google Plus commenting system for blogger.In this post we will look at how to use Google+ Comments on Wordpress, Bloggger and the custom blogger templates.

With Google Plus trying to compete in the social network scene with Facebook it's no surprise like Facebook they launched their own comment system.The question for us bloggers and publishers will be "Should We Use Google Plus Comments ?".

The thing that first struck me was the fact once implemented only people with Google plus accounts would be able to comment on your blog.With the current
blogger treaded comments blogger treaded or indeed Discus and Intense debate readers had a number of options as to how they wanted to comment.I think the real let down with Google+ comments is the lack of an option for people that don't have a G+ account to comment either as anonymous or with name and email.

So the other comment systems defiantly have the advantage of choice but that is just one aspect.Google plus comments do look great, are lightweight and Google+ is a fast growing network.

If you think Google+ comments is for you below we have information on how to add them to Blogger and Wordpress.

Using G+ Comments On Custom Blogger Templates

Google+ comments may not work on all templates so if they are not working for you there is a snippet of code that can help :

Step 1.
In Your (New Design) Blogger Dashboard Click The Drop Down Menu For Your Blog > Choose Template > Then Edit Html > Now Proceed as shown in the video Below :

Step 2.
Find the following piece of code in your blogs Html : (Click Ctrl and F for a search bar to help find the code - How To Find Code In Blogger Template Template)

Step 3.
Copy and Paste the following code Directly Below / After <div class='comments' id='comments'>
<div class='cmt_iframe_holder' expr:data-href='data:post.canonicalUrl'expr:data-viewtype=' data:post.viewType'/>

Now save your template.Thanks to our friends at MBT for this code.

Using G+ Comments On Wordpress

Blog’s Design Making Susceptible Hacker

Running a blog is often a work of love that takes a lot of work and creates something of enormous personal or even business value. This applies especially if you’re blog is old and loaded with thousands of posts that garner you thousands of visitors. Losing all this to hackers and intrusion programs over the course of a single day would be a serious disaster.

While no site or blog can be made completely and totally hack proof, you can limit the possibility for total damage by following the following crucial steps, and making sure that you do one other vital thing: Back up, back up and back up again! Do it regularly, never forget to do it.

1. Badly Chosen Webhost

Not all webhosts are created equal when it comes to site or blog security –some give you access to many more security features than others. Thus, when you’re picking out where to settle your blog’s databases, go for a well known host with a solid reputation for technical support, security features and regular updates.

As a minimum, your hosting provider should regularly be updating their server’s LAMP applications (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) along with any additional third party software that they give you access to for your blog. Also, the host you pick should offer SSL (secure socket layer), SSH (secure shell), secure FTP options, DOS( denial of service) protection and anti-intrusion software protection.

2. Infrequently Updated CMS and Addons

Your CMS, or content management system, is the platform on which your blog is built. You might have designed your own blog from scratch, but most likely you’re running it from a CMS platform like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or TypePad. Whichever of these you use, you should be keeping them regularly updated to their latest versions. The same goes for all your third party blog addons such as Flash, Adobe Acrobat, Java and any CMS plugins you’ve got installed. Finally, the update rule also applies to any blog themes you’re using; always maintain their latest versions.

Though this may seem like a pain in the ass at times, it’s a very necessary step for proper security, since all those new versions of everything are actually being designed with security bug fixing in mind, in addition to adding new functionality and aesthetic features.

Installing new versions of all of these features should be as easy as doing a few clicks inside your hosting cpanel or within your CMS dashboard, and it is important, since an estimated 45% of all site and blog breaches come through improperly updated software addons.

3. Downloading Plugins and Themes from Untrusted Sources

For many CMS platforms, especially WordPress, there are thousands of available site appearance themes and plugins available for download all over the internet. What these do is make your site appearance change according to your needs or give it additional user/admin features that the basic templates and CMS download don’t have.

The problem with them can emerge when you start downloading either from sources that aren’t trusted and reliable. For both themes and plugins, you should be getting your downloads either right from the CMS website itself (ie: www.WordPress.org) or from major distributers, such as ThemeForest.com, that everyone knows and regularly uses.

Old themes from a site that doesn’t get updated or themes built by people who haven’t been vetted by review can either be insecure or conceal deliberately injected malicious code.

4. Failing to Use Strong Access Passwords

Hosting a blog means using a lot of different password protected access points: for MySQL databases, your hosting cpanel CMS dashboard, FTP accounts etc. All of these passwords should be distinct from each other and hard to guess. Don’t rely on simple, easy to remember passwords and don’t ever use any generic passwords provided to you by the systems that run them as defaults. This is a bad idea and will eventually lead to some sort of leak down the line.

You should also make sure that you don’t go sharing your passwords around to easily with others, and change them all after any time you do share access for development and blog maintenance purposes.

5. Failing to Write Good Clean Code

If you’re doing some of your own coding, you need to make sure that its clean, neat and tightly written; the sloppier the code, the more holes for hack access. This applies especially to things such as website forms, dynamic pages and coding around added videos and other third party applications.

To avoid dirty code, run everything you write through the W3C validator at:
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/. And for all third party CMS/Plugin addons you’ll be installing to your blog servers, review them with the code and blog forums on the internet to see if they’ve been vetted as secure. A great place to find information like this is at the forums on www.Stackoverflow.com

Bonus: Some Great Security Plugins

Since you’re going to be installing CMS plugins anyhow, here are some great security oriented ones to include with your blog:

-Stealth Login :
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stealth-login-page/

-User Locker available here:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-locker/

- Limit Login Attempts

-Login Encryp:

Check these out and look for others; they’re a helpful security bonus.

Tips for WordPress Blogging Success

If you're new to WordPress, listen up!

You're so used to people talking about how easy and great
WordPress is, but if you're not the tech-y type just yet, chances are you need a bit of guidance: it's nothing to be ashamed of. This post is for those of you that have done the initial set-up on your WordPress blog or site, and now you're ready for the next step.

Often when you search about
WordPress tips or any questions you may have, you're met with jargon that can make the process of getting to know your WordPress site even more confusing and frustrating.

Hopefully this post will clear up some of that confusion for you. Below are a few tips for WordPress newbies that need a beacon of light in that foggy WordPress world.

Use these tips to make your WordPress experience smooth from here on out:

Keep a Clean Media Library

You can start your media organizing by first disabling the automatic organization that WordPress does for you. Under Settings & Media, disable the option of organizing media chronologically. Uncheck "Organize my uploads into month and year-based folders."

Now all of your media uploads will be placed in one folder, and you can find that perfect picture you're looking for by simply plugging in a related keyword. Just make sure you accurately and thoughtfully label your media. And:

Treat Your Pics Like Content

After all, they are.

Pictures are a great SEO tool that should not be ignored. When you load an image to your site, WP will give you the chance to add
keywords, titles and descriptions. Take the time to label each one! It should go without saying, but make your titles relevant and think of SEO as you label.

Images that are labeled properly will serve a double purpose: search engines will eat them up (driving more traffic to your page), and if your image fails to load or for any reason it's not available to a viewer, the alternate text tag will be featured to explain to readers what the image consists of.

A Little SEO Goes a Long Way

Speaking of SEO: make sure you know the importance of title and description tags for both readers and search engines.

If you're a true newbie, and you're not sure what the function of keywords, titles and descriptions is, just trust that taking the time to construct these for pages and images is worth it.

Descriptions explain to users what they'll find on your site. Make them alluring and spur links by incorporating the ever-popular "call to action" phrasing.

Research the best SEO plugins for WordPress if you need a little help with this. We could get into it here, but it's really a whole other topic or post in and of itself.

Tidy Up Your Sidebar

Your sidebar will have a tendency to get messy. Don't let it. A clean, minimalist site is extremely impressive and desirable, so aim for having one at all times.

WordPress sidebars are jam-packed with ads, newsletters, social media icons, recent tweets, and so on. Don't let important links get lost in the shuffle. Only choose links that you really want your site visitors to click on, and make sure they are prominent and readily available in your sidebar.

One way to clean up is to head to the
Appearance and Widgets section and remove all the extra widgets, leaving only the ones that are beneficial to your business or your site.

A good rule of thumb is, if it does not add e-mails to your list, make you money, or get a user to do something you want--don't include it in the sidebar.

Show Your Footer Some Attention

You might not think your footer is important, but surprisingly a lot of people will navigate to this area of your site to see what's there.

Pick a WP theme that gives you access to this section and include one or more of the following:

• A link to an important article or page

• A field for your e-mail list adds

• A copyright statement

• Info about the owner or web designer

• A bio or mission statement

• Link/s to a blog

If you forget about your footer, you're neglecting a very crucial piece of web real estate. Be careful not to.

Boil Down Permalinks

Long permalinks aren't the best tools for SEO or readers. If you want search engines to find you and you want your readers to easily decipher your links then it's simple: you've got to shorten them and make them relevant.

A long permalink that uses en excess of pointless words looks like this:

wordpresssite.com/best-tips-for-planting-flowers-in-your-new-advanced-flower-pot

A short, easy-to-glance-at permalink will look more like this:

wordpresssite.com/flower-pot-planting-tips

Users and search engines will appreciate your concise links and will reward you for it with rankings and views. The same can be said for the rest of the tips mentioned above. If you follow the guidelines, you'll be rewarded with a clean site that receives traffic and rankings for the right reasons.

Sliding Underlines On Blogger and Wordpress

As someone constantly looking at design and ways to add to the design of blogs often it's the little things that amuse me.This post is definitely an example of that, something as simple as an underline sliding out under a heading or for that matter any text most would see mundane but I see as 'Cool'.So lets look at the effect, first up it's a very easy effect to use on your blog no code knowledge is needed.
Tutorial Logo

Basically on any text on your blog you can make a sliding underline appear on hover (when you place the cursor over it).For me this effect works best on headings and links as these are the text visitors to your blog will hover on most.In future posts I may show how to add the effect to all links on your blog or maybe to Labels/Tags (Like the previous Bump effect for Blogger labels we published in 2011).
Show Me The Effect Already !

OK, hover over the "Show Me The Effect Already" text above to see the magic, cool ehh ?

Hover Here For The Effect In A Heading.

And Hover Here for It In A Link.

What About The Underline Slide From Right To Left ?

No Problem hover over the heading above or this text to see the slide from right to left.

Add The Slide Underline Effect To Your Blog

Using this effect on your blog could not be easier and below I have tutorials for WordPress and Blogger.First I have the CSS to make the effect possible then I will show you how to add the tag to the text you want to have the effect.

Add Sliding Underline To WordPress Tutorial

1)
In Your Wordpress Dashboard Click 'Apperance' > 'Widgets' > Add A text Widget to your sidebar and paste in the code as shown in the video below :

CSS Code

<style>
/* Underline Slide */
.uslide {
display: inline-block;
}
.uslide:after {
content: '';
display: block;
height: 3px;
width: 0;
background: transparent;
transition: width .5s ease, background-color .5s ease;
}
.uslide:hover:after {
width: 100%;
background: #990000;
}
/*Slide Right To Left*/
.uslide2 {
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
padding-bottom: 3px;
}
.uslide2:after {
content: '';
display: block;
position: absolute;
right: 0;
bottom: 0;
height: 3px;
width: 0;
background: transparent;
transition: width .5s ease, background-color .5s ease;
}
.uslide2:hover:after {
width: 100%;
background: #990000;
}
</style>

Now you can add a tag to the text you want to have the effect.In WordPress posts make sure you are in 'Text' mode (You will see text and Visual options at th top right of the post editor).

Now add the class : class="uslide" or if you choose right to left add : class="uslide2".You add them as shown below :

<div class="uslide">The Text You Want Underline</div>

<div class="uslide2">The Text You Want Underline</div>

Add Sliding Underline To Blogger Tutorial

Step 1. -
In Your (New Design) Blogger Dashboard Click The Drop Down Menu For Your Blog > Choose Customize > Advanced > Add Css, as shown in the video below.

Step 2.
Copy and Paste the following code into the Css Section then click Apply To Blog.
/* Underline Slide */
.uslide {
display: inline-block;
}
.uslide:after {
content: '';
display: block;
height: 3px;
width: 0;
background: transparent;
transition: width .5s ease, background-color .5s ease;
}
.uslide:hover:after {
width: 100%;
background: #990000;
}
/*Slide Right To Left*/
.uslide2 {
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
padding-bottom: 3px;
}
.uslide2:after {
content: '';
display: block;
position: absolute;
right: 0;
bottom: 0;
height: 3px;
width: 0;
background: transparent;
transition: width .5s ease, background-color .5s ease;
}
.uslide2:hover:after {
width: 100%;
background: #990000;
}

Now you can add a tag to the text you want to have the effect.In Blogger posts make sure you are in 'HTML' mode (You will see Compose and HTML options at the top left of the post editor).

Now add the class : class="uslide" or if you choose right to left slide add : class="uslide2".You add them as shown below :

3 Coolest Way To Many More Google plus Followers

If you have been following the news about Google+, you would know there are conflicting reports about it.
Some say it is a ghost town in the sense that no one is using it. Here are some statements from the Freelance Switch:
Google Plus remains a social media ghost town. Though it has half a billion users, almost no one actually uses it, at least not regularly. …
Google Plus has over 500 million members. And every day, millions of people move around the margins of Google Plus through Google Local, Hangouts, Picasa and Social Search.
Yet the core of Google Plus, its social network, is hardly used at all. It’s a social networking ghost town.
Others say it is an active social media hub. Here are the views of Copyblogger:
Google+ is now the second largest social network in terms of active users, passing Twitter and ranking only second to Facebook. So much for the “ghost town” theory, huh?
Where did all that ghost town talk come from, anyway? How about Facebook’s PR department and snarky bloggers who’ve invested too heavily in other platforms?
Be careful who you listen to.
So it’s up to you whom are you listening. This article won’t attempt to analyze such claims. Google is not revealing its stats and in their absence it would be pure conjecture to lean on one side or the other.
This article assumes you want to use Google+ and will explain how to get more followers for your Google+ account.
To business.

 1) Create a cool Google+ page

how to get more Google+ followers 1
This may sound obvious but take a look at random profiles on Google+ and you will be amazed by how much this advice is ignored.
This is business 101 baby.
The very definition of business says first create something of value and only then do marketing. Or else what will you market if you have nothing in the first place?
Similarly first of all make a brilliant Google+ page. Fill up all details in correct grammar, use a good quality, photo not something taken from your webcam, and insert a huge awesome image as your banner. Ask yourself – when someone will land on your page will he get that vow feeling? If the answer is no, you need to change it.
For an example see the Coca Cola’s page whose screenshot is displayed above.

 2) Get custom URLs on Google+

internet browser
What is a Google+ custom URL?
Take a look at the following two URLs:
  • http://plus.google.com/114124401690420551118
  • https://plus.google.com/+hubspot
The first one was the old URL of HubSpot and the second one is their new one.
The latter URL is called a custom URL because it has been customized to suit the profile name.
In August, last year Google had announced it is rolling out custom URLs for some profiles and pages, and that it will soon make the feature available to “many more brands and individuals”.
You’ll have to check whether you qualify for the custom URL or not, but if you do, it is strongly recommended that you choose the custom URL. It is much easier to remember and share and demonstrates professionalism.

3) Share quality stuff to get more Google+ followers

internet browser
As they say, focus on quality over quantity. Don’t spam your followers’ feeds with garbage content from all over the Internet. Share quality stuff.
The advantage of sharing quality material is that it will receive more +1’s and more shares from your readers. The people in their circles will then see your content and will come over to check out your page and, if impressed, they will circle you too.
Also, sharing quality stuff will demonstrate to your followers that you can be trusted with your editorial judgment.

Outstanding 5 Way To Make Money For Your Website

Website monetization has become a hot topic. After all, who would not want money? One of the types of website monetization is5 Ways to Make More Money from Your Blog earning from your blog. Making money from your website or blog is not bad at all, especially with your site already gaining a lot of traffic. Blogging nowadays has really become a huge industry where many people earn good money.

Moreover, more and more people become bloggers daily to earn some respect and have money along the side. If you own a blog, you can get an unbelievable income from it. Increase Your Blog’s Traffic

First things first, make your blog site friendly to the search engines so it draws more traffic. A blog site with a great deal of traffic is capable to earn money, especially when it comes to advertising. To increase traffic, keep on posting the latest news and talk about topics that appeal to the general public; but such topic should be related to your blog’s niche. The use of the right keywords in your content is also one of the ways to be in friendly terms with search engines. More traffic to your blog site can boost earnings for you as a blog owner.
Aside from more traffic, make sure your blog is designed in a professional way. A decent and simple design also attracts visitors. More visitors means more income. That is what traffic really means anyway.

Allow Advertising on Your Blog

One of the most well-known methods of making more money from your blog is to allow some advertising on your blog site – posting advertisements such as ad banners, ad texts, etc. By featuring ads on your blog, you can get a good deal of income when someone clicks or buy from the companies which advertisement is posted on your blog.
