Make Your Own Tron Bikes With Science

Drivers don’t see bikers. It’s a fact. Whether it’s pedal-powered or a screaming four-banger, the common refrain from drivers after a crash is, “They came out of nowhere!” There are plenty of solutions (high-vis gear comes to mind), but nothing is as eye-catching — or sci-fi chic — as this.
It’s the latest Active Side Lighting kit from Lunasee, complete with three times more LED-powered juice than its standard system, and it looks so damn cool we’re thinking about picking up a set.
It works like this: Four, one-watt high-powered LEDs are fitted to the front and rear of the bike, directed at the wheel’s rim. On either side of the wheel is a strip of photo-luminescent LunaGlo tape that gets charged by the lights. In less than a second the strips are glowing and you’re doing your best Jeff Bridges (or Garrett Hedlund) impression.
The new Lunasee Pro 1000 kit comes in at $159.95, and includes everything the frequent night-rider needs. And if you’re looking to mix it up, you’ll be able to pick up different color rim tape for $24.95 early next year. If nothing else, it’s a better way of getting attention than loud pipes, neon nights, and impromptu wheelies.
